The Oba B. White Tenure, 1953-1956
Dr. Oba Bernethel White, BA, MD., a charter member of Mu Chapter, March 27, 1920, and a charter member of the Little Rock Alumni Chapter was appointed Grand Polemarch W. Henry Green as the 11th Southwestern Province Polemarch. He is the first SWP Polemarch to be awarded the Elder Watson Diggs Award.
He was a charter member of the Senior Physicians of Arkansas; a past president and secretary of the American Academy Family Physicians of Pulaski County (having been the first African American member of that society); and past president of the Arkansas Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical. Association. The Medical Association continues to sponsor monthly medical seminars, which bear his name.
During the course of his professional career, Dr. White has served as Preceptor for the Minority Medical Graduates at the University of Arkansas Medical School and Honorary Consultant at the Little Rock Air Force Base Hospital. He has served as Medical Examiner for federal employers, Universal Life Insurance Company, Mutual of Omaha, the Elks (Little Rock and the State of Arkansas) and Goodrich Tire Company.

The Little Rock Alumni Chapter has established the first outstanding service award that is awarded to members of the chapter that has made outstanding singular or collective contributions in service to the chapter and community efforts.
